An economy option on the north end of the island of Cozumel, El Cozumeleño attracts a mix of families and couples, especially those interested in golf and scuba diving. The rooms are very basic and very dated, the beach is fairly narrow (but it’s one of the better beaches on the island), there are just two on-site restaurants (and getting reservations can be difficult; there isn’t much in the surrounding area, either), and the fitness center fails to impress; but the property offers good swimming pool areas (including a unique, partially-sheltered pool with a waterfall), a swim-up bar, fairly decent food for an all-inclusive (although the reviews are mixed), a kids club, hammocks and palapas on the beach, room balconies with great ocean views, an impressive mini golf course, and discounted greens fees at the Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course next door (the Cozumel Country Club, the only course on the island). Other activities include bird watching tours at the golf course, top-notch scuba diving (the outstanding Palancar Reef is nearby), snorkeling, jet skiing, deep sea fishing, parasailing, bicycle tours, and kayaking.
On-site COVID-19 testing prior to departure is available for a fee. PCR tests are $130 USD and antigen tests are $28 USD. In the case of a positive test, the hotel will offer an all-inclusive special rate of $15 USD per night per person for up to 14 days; the affected guest can have a travel companion (sharing one room).
